- Who wants to live forever? It seems like there are, at least, who would raise up to Freddie Mercury s question. Proponents of transhumanism fiercely advocate for the widespread utilization of biotechnology to improve the human condition, including the individual biological set date of expiration.
Using a selection of texts, this class will explore the debate behind this so-called Human Enhancement. Together, we will review empirical studies and theoretical accounts of general attitudes, trapdoors, unexpected implications, and passionate debates.
Every week, participants will read texts, reflect on their content, and share their insights and open questions with the class. There will be no(!) student-held talks, only class and small group discussions. The required certificate of achievement will be a written reflection of the class s content.
