- Important note: This seminar will be offered in English. The whole class is strongly focused on the discussion among the participants.
- Inhalt
- Since the beginning of his existence, man has changed his environment and shaped it according to his ideas. From the first hand axe to the Mona Lisa: different things are attributed very special meanings.
Together, we want to take a close look at what things actually are and what influence they have on human experience and behavior.
Each week we want to take a closer look at one thing and, with the help of various psychological and philosophical theories, understand what this thing actually does to us.
There will be no presentations by the students. Therefore, great importance is attached to the desire for active participation.
Seminar participants will read an English-language text each week, which will be discussed in the group. Each of these texts thematically revolves around a group of things and objects. Lecturers and students are asked to bring exemplary objects, whose meaning and characteristics are then discursively examined based on the literature.
Together, the plenum then formulates a take-home message.
The seminar performance consists on the one hand of active participation and reading of the texts, and on the other hand of a 3- to 5-page informal essay in which the seminar content is finally applied.
