Inhalt
An introductory English-language seminar course that explains the visual domain with an emphasis on understanding the underlying neural architecture. No neuroscience background is required, as the key necessary concepts will be introduced within the course.

The course build the understanding of the visual processing from grounds up helping you to understand and, with the help of visual illusions, literally see how the visual system works. We start with the retina and the primary visual cortex (did you know that V1 contains information about the world that you cannot access?). Next, we explore different visual properties such as motion (I’ll show you how you can see motion when nothing moves), color (you will see at least four different colors in a single gray patch), object- and face-processing. We finish the course of by taking a look at visual attention (topics include change blindness and attention without awareness) and various types of visual memories, including prior knowledge that produces the visual illusions.

Most importantly: I will take great care of illustrating all the phenomena with many examples and tr-out-experiments, including thrilling visual illusions which will fascinate you.
