Inhalt
Happiness and well-being are something almost everyone pursues. Despite its importance, we do not learn what they are or how to achieve them in schools. In this seminar, we will learn about them starting from the basics what are happiness and well-being? We will review various accounts (theories) of happiness/well-being in Philosophy. Then we will review how the theories were operationalized and tested in scientific fields, especially Psychology and Economics. We will review various empirical research asking interesting questions such as Does money buy happiness? , Are there skills that we can learn to be happy? We will also briefly review how public policies are integrating the knowledge from the science of happiness into policymaking. In addition, we will study how happiness and well-being are perceived in different cultures around the world. At the end of the seminar, you will be acquainted with philosophical and scientific knowledge on happiness and well-being, but it will be also a great opportunity to reflect the knowledge on yourself, thus finding your personalized way of achieving happiness and a good life.
