Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches
Das Seminar wird für das Pflichtmodul Persönlichkeitspsychologie im Studiengang Bachelor Psychologie angeboten.
Students will pass the class if they complete the following:
Participation in the lectures
Reflection papers (either in class or take home)
Short presentation in pairs

Inhalt
Psychological strengths also referred to as character strengths - are adaptive aspects of personality traits that exist in varying degrees. Examples of these strengths are curiosity, hope, optimism, grit, humility, and gratitude. Individuals differ with respect to the extent to which they possess a particular strength, awareness around its existence, and to what extent they use it. This seminar is a detailed examination of and discussion around these psychological strengths and their effects on human functioning. For this aim, the seminar will specifically focus on the theoretical models of psychological strengths, their similarities with core personality traits, methods of measurement, how strengths contribute to emotional and physical wellbeing, and the extent to which they can be changed through life events and developed by interventions such as intentional activities. The seminar will also offer future directions for research and clinical applications of strengths. This is a highly interactive seminar and includes lecturing by the instructor, in-class group discussions, and real life individual and group activities. The seminar will run remotely via live lectures.
