- Voraussetzungen/Prerequisites: Participants must have successfully passed at least two of the following courses in Comparative Politics: lecture, introductory seminar, seminar. Prior experience in writing a term paper in political science is expected.
Teilnehmende müssen zwei von drei der folgenden Veranstaltungen aus Vergleichender Politikwissenschaft erfolgreich bestanden haben: Vorlesung, Proseminar, Seminar. Zudem wird Erfahrung im Verfassen einer Hausarbeit in der Politikwissenschaft erwartet.

- Inhalt
- Democratic politics can be understood as competition within a political space in which voters and parties occupy positions on major policy issues. How do voters’ policy preferences and perceptions of party positions shape their choices at the ballot box? What distinguishes left-wing, centrist, and right-wing parties from one another? How can parties’ ideological positions be measured empirically? And how do these positions influence coalition bargaining and government formation? Using the spatial model of politics as a common theoretical framework, this seminar examines these and related questions about voter choice, party competition, and government formation. It combines theoretical models with empirical research and introduces both traditional and computational approaches to measuring party positions.
