- This block course will be held at a cottage 1.5 hours from Bamberg where we will stay the whole weekend (June 28 - June 30).
There will be a contribution towards expenses of about 30-35 for everyone. A briefing will be held in April.

- Inhalt
- In this seminar, we will explore desirability, viability and achievability of socialism: Does socialism require generous people to work? Is socialism the (only) way to make generosity flourish? Gerald A. Cohen develops a socialist utopia in his short book "Why not Socialism?". He claims that we are committed to socialist for example in communal camping trips. We will analyse and discuss the book but also see whether we find its claims to hold in our group during the weekend. Furthermore, we will investigate Jason Brennan's reply "Why not Capitalism?" to Cohen and Albert Einstein's classical socialist account Why Socialism? .
Assessment of this course consists of two short essays (1500-2000 words): The first one is due before the seminar weekend and defend one's own opinion, drawing from seminar readings where necessary. The second essay is due in summer and should also incorporate the discussions at the weekend and critically engage with the seminar texts. Detailed information on the essays will be given at the briefing session.
