Inhalt
This seminar is about the politics and policies of immigration in liberal democracies. It addresses the relationship of mobility, migrants and the nation-state, taking into account the determinants and functions of migration policies. It aims at introducing students to central theoretical concepts, empirical research and debates in the analysis of migration politics and policies and seeks to delineate the benefits and pitfalls of researching migration from the perspective of the nation-state. It discusses various state strategies to respond to the challenges posed by or involving different forms of migration (i.e. labour migration, forced migration, irregular migration).
