Inhalt
This course will provide the student with an understanding of current and complex research and policy debates on key migrant integration issues in Europe. The course will focus specifically on the area of labour market integration (employment, income etc.) and education (performance, achievement, choices). The course is structured in three parts: 1) Part I will cover what we mean by migrant integration (definitions), how integration processes can conceptionalized (theory), as well as what we mean by ‘migrants in Europe’ (migration history and demography projections). 2) Part II focusses on various issues regarding labour market integration including discrimination and over-qualification. 3) Part III focusses on various issues regarding migrant education including educational systems and educational choice. Part 4 covers other integration debates such as segregation and citizenship. After this course, the student will be familiar with a wide range of key policy issues regarding migrant integration in Europe, be able to summarize and interpret existing evidence, formulate policy recommendations and explain mechanism driving migrant integration in Europe.
