- Inhalt
- The seminar elaborates on the particular situation of families with children in different societies. Specifically, it addresses:
- financial and institutional frameworks,
- fertility rates and normative birth behaviors,
- parenting norms concerning styles and goals,
- intra-familial gender arrangements and their reflections in labor market participation and the division of household chores,
- topics outside the box according to students interest.
Though the main focus is on the Western cultural and structural framework, strong emphasis is also laid on an international comparison beyond. German and international students are highly encouraged to share their own experiences regarding family norms, cultural peculiarities and structural conditions in Germany and abroad.
Students assessment will be based on a 30 minute presentation and a seminar paper at the end of the term.
Participation in a preparatory session (e.g., to assign topics for the presentation) is mandatory for students, the date is yet to be announced.
