- Inhalt
- Lewis Coser’s ‘The Functions of Social Conflict’ and Ralf Dahrendorf`s ‘Class and Class Conflict in Industrial Society’ are seminal works in the sociology of conflict because they show the effects of conflict on social change and social cohesion. Both studies were published in the 1950s and they contributed significantly to the development of sociological theory. The main thesis is that conflict is not dysfunctional, but a necessary and fruitful impetus for social change. Coser’s and Dahrendorf`s works are still worth reading, especially if you are interested in political sociology, the study of social movements or civil society.
