- Die Verteilung auf die Einführungskurse in die Literaturwissenschaft (Houswitschka, Müller, Stähler) erfolgt durch Eintrag in eine Teilnehmerliste im Rahmen der Einführungsveranstaltung in das Fach Anglistik. Dieser Eintrag ist verpflichtend. Dabei können die Studierenden Prioritäten angeben. Es wird auf jeden Fall auf eine gleichmäßige Verteilung auf die jeweiligen Kurse geachtet. Halten Sie sich daher bitte Ihren Ausweichtermin in der Stundenplanung frei. Die endgültige Zuteilung der Kurse wird ab Freitag vor Beginn der Vorlesungszeit per Aushang am schwarzen Brett in der U9 (erster Stock) bekannt gegeben.
- Inhalt
- This course provides an introduction to the study of English and American Literature. After introducing some of the most important study skills (how to find critical literature; how to write a seminar paper etc.), the first major part of the course gives a survey of the genres of English and American Literature. A range of texts from different periods will help to exemplify the characteristics of poetry, prose fiction and drama.
The second part starts with a survey of current theoretical approaches to interpreting literature. We will then look at three or four of these approaches in greater detail with the help of some exemplary interpretations of one novel (Mary Shelley's Frankenstein).
For this purpose, students are expected to read (and buy) an edition of the novel (1831 text). The other texts for this course will be available in a folder on a reserved shelf in the library. A tutorial for the practice of study skills and for an enhandced discussion of the text will accompany the course.
Throughout the course, assignments will be given to the participants, and in the last session an exam will be written.
