Für Studienortwechsler, Erasmusstudenten sowie Studierende, die den Leistungsnachweis zur baldigen Prüfungsanmeldung benötigen, werden im begrenzten Umfang Plätze frei gehalten. Bei Überbuchung des Seminars fällt die Entscheidung über die Teilnahme in Rücksprache mit der Dozentin/dem Dozenten.

- Inhalt
- Labeled the island of saints and scholars and credited by many with singlehandedly saving European civilization, Ireland and the Irish have enjoyed a great deal of positive resonance internationally. Nevertheless, the country has had its fair share of detractors, among them none other than the great Sigmund Freud, who considered the Irish completely resistant to psychoanalysis! We will be taking a look at such positive and negative views of Ireland and the Irish against the backdrop of the country´s political, social and economic history, in an attempt to gain a real impression of the country and its people. We will also look beyond Ireland to countries to which the Irish have emigrated (both out of necessity and by choice) and consider the areas and scope of the diaspora´s influence on the USA.
Music and dance, literature and art will be the fields in which we shall seek to pinpoint Irish identity some of its elements poignant and clear, others elusive and transitory. We shall trace how concepts of ‘Irishness’ have changed over the past ninety years since the birth of the Irish Republic and aim to predict the country´s future, nationally and internationally, in the coming decades.
