Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches
This lecture introduces students to offensive and defensive concepts from the fields of information security and privacy. We will cover security and safety fundamentals and discuss threats and countermeasures in the fields of systems security, network security, software security, web security as well as privacy in information systems.
The tutorials consist of exercises that reflect on theoretical and practical aspects covered in the lecture. Some of the exercises will involve programming. Participants will be able to perform these exercises on their own machines or on virtual machines that are provided by the organizers.
PREREQUISITES: There are no formal prerequisites. However, we programming skills in Java or a scripting language like Python are very useful. It is also recommended that participants familiarize themselves with the Linux shell to solve the assignments more efficiently.

Inhalt
Please sign up in VC (https://vc.uni-bamberg.de/moodle/course/view.php?id=32302) for this course if you intend to take it (ideally you would sign up until Oct 15). This helps us with capacity planning for the tutorials.
This module consists of two parts, a lecture (2 contact hours per week on average) and a tutorial (2 contact hours per week on average). It is sufficient to attend one of the offered tutorial groups.
The exercises will be solved in groups consisting of multiple students. There will be homework assignments as well as assignments to be solved during the tutorials in class. Two of the assignment sheets will be randomly chosen by the organizers to be graded.

There will be a written exam for this module at the end of the semester.
Lecture, tutorials, and exam will be in English unless all participants are fluent in German. Answers can be given in English or German. All lecture notes are in English.
This module is offered to all interested Bachelor and Master students (however, see prerequisites below).
