Inhalt
In times of rising migration and naturalizations rates, more and more voters in Western democracies are of immigrant-origin, i.e. either they or their parents were not born in their country of residence. Including this numerous societal sub-group into the political system has become increasingly important in recent years. In this Master seminar, we will first discuss the theoretical basics of electoral research before we focus on the major challenges of immigrants’ political integration such as the immigrant participation gap as well as other empirical phenomena such as ethnic bloc voting or linked fate. We will draw on studies from different contexts, such as the US, UK, Germany, and Norway to study similarities and differences. Last, you will develop your own research questions and analyse existing studies with R. This seminar will be held in English unless there are only German speakers present. In this case, we may decide together in week 1 to hold it in German.
