Sie sollten die Bereitschaft zum Lesen deutscher und englischsprachiger Texte mitbringen.
Prüfungsform: Referat + schriftliche Hausarbeit (An- und Abmeldefristen werden im Seminar bekannt gegeben). Referate werden nicht benotet. Die Sitzungen werden vom Dozenten interaktiv gestaltet. Im Vordergrund steht die gemeinsame Diskussion und Reflexion der Inhalte der Seminartexte.

Research suggests that people with strong ties to family, friends and communities live longer. But what is the explanation for the link between social interactions and biomedical conditions? This module examines classic and contemporary research on the relationship between social capital and health. It explores different contexts, including partnerships, friendships, families and work environments, and different life course processes, including marriage, parenthood and divorce. A focus is also to examine the decline of individuals' institutional integration and the rise of social media use and to discuss how these trends have changed the dynamics of social capital formation.
Lernziele:
Students can define individual and structural characteristics of social relationships that are relevant to health. They demonstrate familiarity with empirical evidence linking social relationships and health and can explain these links using theoretical frameworks. In addition, students can explain how key social processes and institutions influence the development of social capital and its relationship to health outcomes. They are also able to critically evaluate studies that examine the links between social relationships and health, taking into account the methodological approaches used.
